April 28, 2022
On this National Day of Mourning, I would like to invite the residents of Clarence-Rockland to remember the people who have lost their lives, been injured, or became ill at work. No one should leave home in the morning to go to work, and not return because of an incident or accident.
The most recent statistics from the Association of Workers' Compensation Boards of Canada show that in 2019, there were 925 workplace deaths in Canada. Among those who died were 29 young people between the ages of 15 and 24. These individuals all had families and co-workers who still carry the scars of these tragedies to this day.
So, let's take a few minutes today to renew our commitment to workplace health and safety. Let us collectively pledge to make it a priority.
Sincerely,
Mario Zanth, Mayor
