Firefighter

Full-Time Position 40 hours/week

Position summary

Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief of the Building and Protective Services, as the Firefighter, you will be expected to provide rescue, extinguishment, ventilation, overhaul and forced entry operations in fire situations. You will also be expected to provide advanced medical response, ice and water rescue, and operate various types of equipment and apparatus.   Clarence-Rockland Firefighters also conduct fire prevention, public education and in-service inspections, as well as prepare training evolutions in order to benefit all Clarence-Rockland Firefighters.  

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a career firefighter or 5 years as a volunteer firefighter. 
  • Have successfully completed grade 12 secondary education or equivalent.  
  • Ability to assist and provide expertise in fire and explosion investigations. 
  • Ability to assist in providing sound judgement and expertise in the delivery of Fire Code related inspections and advice. 
  • Ability to assist in the building, design, and deliver training in the areas of fire operations, medical response, and rescue activities. 
  • Ability to provide presentations, discussions and present various public educational efforts related to public safety. 
  • Possess and maintain a valid “DZ” driver’s licence.  
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 & 2 certification or grandfathered equivalency.  
  • NFPA 1072 Hazmat Operations.
  • NFPA 1002 Pump Operations.
  • NFPA 1006 Water and Ice Rescue.
  • Bilingual (spoken & written).  

Assets:

  • Post-Secondary education. 
  • NFPA 1035 Level 1.

Salary

$71 555 to $102 222 as per the collective agreement.

Successful applicants may be invited to conduct a written and/or physical fitness tests, as well as a medical exam.

Operator Labourer – Public Works (three positions)

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Public Works Manager and/or the supervisor, the Operator Labourer is required to perform professional maintenance, construction or repair work on roads, sanitary sewers, municipal drains, water service and garbage collection.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 (high school diploma) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a municipal or related field.
  • Valid DZ driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Must be able to work in both official languages (English and French).
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to interact effectively with residents, coworkers, and external vendors.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks.
  • Must be available for a flexible work schedule when required.
  • A copy of the driving record must be submitted upon hiring and is a condition of employment.

Assets:

  • Valid AZ driver’s license.
  • Good knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.

Salary

Class 4 (blue collars) of the unionized salary scale: $26.66 to $30.86/hour.
