Emergency Update - May 24 2022
Communications
- If you have any questions about the City's services, please call the Client Service Centre, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. The number is 613-446-6022 and dial 0 immediately.
- Residents can call 211 for information on government and local community-based health and social services.
- Please reserve the use of 911 to situations where there is risk to public safety and life-threatening emergencies.
- Please check on your neighbours and share this information with them.
Emergency shelter
- The emergency shelter at the Clarence Creek Arena remains open to charge your devices, take a shower and get water. Please bring your containers and amenities such as soap, shampoo, and towels. Please note that there is no internet service at the arena.
- The emergency shelter is open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
- If you need emergency shelter between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am, please call 211.
Waste
- The landfill site on Lalonde Road in Bourget is open free of charge from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm until Friday May 27th, for all types of waste including trees, branches, stumps and perished food. .
- We are asking residents to limit the quantity of food waste in their regular curbside pickup.
- This week’s waste collection will be on the normal long weekend schedule (your collection is pushed forward one day).
- The transfer station remains closed until further notice.
Water
- City water is safe to drink. If you are not on the municipal water system, water bottles are available at the Clarence Creek Arena. You may also refill your own containers if you need water for other purposes such as dishes and toilets.
Stay Safe - Generators
- Use generators outdoors only. Exhaust fumes could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning if they are not properly vented. To prevent exhaust gases from entering the house, operate generators in well ventilated conditions away from windows and doors, and be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions.
- Plug your appliances directly into the generator using properly rated Canadian standards associations approved cords.
Food Safety
- If your fridge and freezer have been without power for more than 24 hours, please do not consume the food. You can dispose of spoiled food at the Landfill site on Lalonde Road in Bourget from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm until Friday May 27th.
Traffic Safety
- Please remember that traffic lights without power become a 4 way stop. Use caution when approaching intersections.
Insurance
- If your property has been damaged by the storm, the first step is to contact your insurance company. If you are a renter, contact the property owner as well as your insurance company.
Electricity
- Power has begun to be restored in Rockland and businesses are beginning to open again. Check directly with businesses for more information.
