Prescott-Russell, June 1st, 2021- Each year, thousands of residents and visitors come together on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day in different locations in Prescott-Russell. This year, for the first time ever, all municipalities and CAPRAC are getting together to offer Canada PR 2021. All counties are happy to have their municipal teams join forces to offer a unique event to their citizens and are inviting the community of Prescott-Russell to gather virtually to celebrate Canada’s 154th birthday, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada PR 2021 is a virtual event that will allow residents and online guests to mark this national holiday safely from the comfort of their homes, yards and patios. This virtual celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. on July 1, and will feature musical, magic and dancing performances by some of the biggest names to come from Prescott-Russell. Follow this virtual celebration on Facebook and YouTube leading up to and on Canada Day for information and livestream of this amazing event!

Residents are encouraged to “dust off their flags” and decorate their homes in red, white and Canadian flags. Share your photos and celebration setups with us at #CanadaPR2021.
“The Conseil des arts de Prescott et Russell Arts Council is proud to be collaborating with all counties of Prescott and Russell for celebrating our country, everyone’s land, our unifying diversity and our deep acknowledgment of one another’s core identity and uniqueness.” states Eric Charlebois, President of Prescott-Russell Arts Council.

Mr. Charlebois adds, “Art, culture and heritage truly are the loudest of rallying cries and the strongest of bonds to assert our sense of belonging and our proactive openness. They give life all its uplifting perspective. Canada is the one country investing and firmly believing in the endless potential that lies within our splendid differences. Let’s celebrate it. Let’s celebrate our region. Together, through expression, let’s celebrate your stellar presence, from wherever you may be.”

O Canada Sing-Along

Oh Canada! To celebrate Canada Day, Prescott and Russell residents are invited to participate in a virtual choir for the interpretation of the national anthem during the unifying concert! We are looking for several clips of different Prescott-Russell residents singing “O Canada” and willing to participate in this volunteer opportunity. Whether you are alone or in your social bubble, dress in red and white and send us a video of your interpretation of O Canada (in the language of your choice) by following an instrumental track. The age of participants can range from toddlers to adults, and families singing along. We will combine those shared posts and make more compilation videos. Virtually, you’ll be joining in song with residents from every county to celebrate Canada Day! Before June 20, residents can send their clip and find the instrumental track on the registration form: https://forms.gle/bs8v7SueGTeHni896.
