OTTAWA/GATINEAU, Wednesday March 16, 2022 The Ottawa River Regulating Committee monitors the Ottawa River basin closely in preparation for the spring freshet. Overall, weather conditions this winter have been close to normal in most locations of the basin. With above seasonal temperatures forecast for this week and rainfall over the southern portion of the basin later this week, levels and flows are expected to start increasing in the lower Ottawa River. Weather Forecast:

Environment Canada is forecasting milder temperatures through the week, reaching daytime highs of 8 to 15 oC, and rainfall over the weekend totaling up to 50 mm by late Sunday, March 20th. 

Environmental Conditions:

Runoff is expected due to warmer temperatures, melting snow, and forecasted rainfall. This will lead to increased water levels and flows across the SNC jurisdiction. Ice breakup is also expected.

Weather Forecast:

Environment Canada is forecasting milder temperatures and rainfall amounts up to 15 mm by late Sunday.

Environmental Conditions:

Runoff is expected due to forecasted rainfall, warmer temperatures and melting snow. This will lead to increased water levels and flows across the SNC jurisdiction. Ice breakup is also possible.

Risks:

Warmer temperatures, snow melt and rainfall will likely produce higher water levels and possible nuisance flooding in low-lying areas across the jurisdiction....
