The City of Clarence-Rockland has declared a significant weather event due to an expected prolonged period of freezing rain. This weather may cause power outages, slippery surfaces, and falling branches due to ice accumulation.

Declaration start time: March 28, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

Be Prepared – Special Weather Statement in Effect

As you may know, Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of significant ice accretion due to freezing rain. Forecasted conditions include:

  • Ice buildup: 5 to 15 mm, with some areas possibly exceeding 20 mm
  • Snow and ice pellets: 5 to 15 cm
  • Potential impacts: Slippery surfaces, broken tree branches, and utility outages

SNC advises that the Flood Watch Statement updated on March 17th is being extended. Environment Canada is forecasting precipitation amounts up to 10 mm from Thursday to Saturday. A Flood Outlook Statement is being issued for areas along the Lower Ottawa River (Arnprior to Hawkesbury).

A large weather system brought 10 to 20 mm of precipitation over much of the Ottawa River basin between March 15th and 17th. This system also brought warm temperatures that triggered a rapid melting of snow in the southern portion of the Ottawa River, marking the beginning of the spring freshet in the Ottawa River basin.
